Nature Center to Open Every Weekend in April, May and June

Many weekend visitors to the Fair Hill Natural Resources Management Area are disappointed when they stop by the Nature Center only to find it closed. In an effort to accommodate weekend visitors, and to test the feasibility of having weekend hours, the Board of Directors is opening the Center doors each weekend in April, May and June from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Visitors may roam the Center, investigate displays and mounts of some of the wildlife found at Fair Hill and get an idea about the programs being offered to school children this spring. Two self-guided trail brochures will also be available. One will lead you out to see spring wildflowers (plan on visiting in April to see most of the plants listed in bloom); the other will describe some of the interesting history of Fair Hill and the duPont hunting lodge which is home to the Nature Center, as well as the natural history of habitats you encounter on an easy walk along nature center trails.

The Center will be staffed by Foundation Board members. Please feel free to ask them questions. If they don't know the answers, they will pass your inquiry on to the Nature Center staff and someone will respond by telephone or note. We hope that anyone who has memories or stories about Fair Hill's past will share it with us by recording your anecdote on our "I Remember When" tape or in a notebook which will be available.

Also scheduled on several of these weekends are programs led by Center staff or guest naturalists. More information about these programs are listed under Spring Events in this issue.

These weekend open houses provide you with a great opportunity to visit the Nature Center with a friend, learn something new, and enjoy the outdoors during the freshest time of year. We hope to see you soon!
