Fair Hill Nature Center's Outdoor School

Grade 1

"Habitat Hunt", Life Science - Organisms

Concepts from STC:

1. We use our senses to observe the world around us.

2. Organisms have basic needs.

3. Each type of organism has specific needs.

4. There is a wide diversity of life.

5. Organisms grow, change and die.

6. Some plants grow from seeds.

Students are introduced to the design and needs of plants and animals through sensory activities and role playing. Hiking through a field and a forest and visiting the stream, students who are transformed into native animals, search for their basic needs. A special emphasis is placed on plant organisms. Age appropriate games will reinforce concepts and guide exploration.
