MONTHLY MEETING: January 17, 2001

MINUTES

 

Members Present: Larry Klevans, Doug Hill, Jerry Newman, Jim Campbell presided, Nancy Simpers, Barb Snyder. Not enough members present for quorum.

Budget Report: Larry handed out list of 2000 donations. Budget of 2001, consists of 32,000 donations, 20,000 grants. Discussed in depth the need for more funds. Mistake in budget for consultant was pointed out-should be 500 instead (for Karen Aspinwall). Larry will correct.

Dennis hoping for 10,000 from Bar Association each year for the next three years. Nancy stated Mrs. Patsy DuPont might be forthcoming on shortfall. Will also work on Allaire DuPont

Nancy suggested a spotlight page in Whig for the past year, will talk with them about that. Nancy stated that she would gently urge people to donate. Need to ask all banks, Bob Knowles, John Hughes, Dell Foxx, Mary Halsey, Jim Crothers.

County Commissioners are cutting funding by half (5000). Fundraisers were discussed (professional) -have person work on contingency basis of "you raise so much then you get . . ."

Doug spoke about the video that Alex Hill is shooting, need funds for editing, and supplies. Doug handed out draft of business letter, which has been mailed out to five people asking them to donate funds for completion of video. Those contributors would then be listed in the credits of the video. Doug is asking small business people for donations because of thinking about their desire for cheap advertising.

Staff: Holly Hannum made a presentation before the Cecil County Board of Education at their December meeting to ask for funding to support Grade 3. Schools are sending Gr. 1 and 2 now.

Building & Grounds: Jerry Newman stated that one large (20 lb.) stone has fallen from chimney, looks like two others are ready to fall. Asked for names of stone masons to repair, and perhaps repoint the chimney. He has painted other bathroom, and is working on kitchen and dining room. Asked for volunteers, Nancy said she'd work during week. Jerry is donating birdseed toward the feeders. Nancy said she'd ask for donation from Am. Home & Hardware.

Personnel Committee: Jerry Newman -Personnel Committee report from Dan. Sue Barr and Janet Fallon have been interviewed about their job descriptions.

Next meeting of committee is 1/18/01 at Chamber Office. Will have job description for Executive Director ready for next meeting. Wants alternates to serve on committee since Jerry Hendricks and Angie Barnett may be not available.

Jim Campbell stated that before we hire an Ex.Dir. we really need to have $25-30,000 in reserve for the first year salary.

Bylaws, discussed briefly, Chief Exe Officer should be "or President"

Committee decided to take out term limits

Program Committee: Plant sale exchange, walk, wine and cheese. Reviewed upcoming events. Jerry has spoken with Holly regarding BlueBird Box and Maple Sugaring on Mar 3.

Frog Frenzy and Night Hike/Bonfire -Apr. 6

Earth Day Walk and 10 yr. Nature Center Celebration, Apr 21-22

Stargazing -Linda Tinsman is ready to set up another try -(thinking of May)

No Trace Camping -May ?

Program Committee has not met recently. Will ask for volunteers to help with events from Bd. Of Directors, ask members to call Sue to schedule.

Next meeting Wednesday in February 21 at Rising Sun Library.
