Nature Center programs are great for nature lovers, outdoor enthusiasts of all ages, families and organizations such as Scout groups. Family memberships and organization memberships are available for $30. Scout groups and other youth organizations over 12 members are $50.


ELKTON FALL FEST

Saturday, September 18, 9:00 am– 8:00 pm
 

Presented by the Elkton Alliance and offers music, crafters, games and activities in downtown Elkton. Visit thel Nature Center's games and crafts from 8:00 through 5:00. Nature Center activities range from $.50 to $2.00. Volunteers are needed - call the Nature Center. More info.


FAMILY DAY AT THE FARM

Sunday, September 19, 1:00 -4:00 pm
 

Visit the Nature Center's booth and meet Bernate the Turtle - at Ward's Knowledge Farm in Warwick. Free. Sponsored by Maryland Cooperative Extension. Flyer and directions.


TRIAL MAINTENANCE DAY

Saturday, September 25, 9:00 am– 1:00 pm

We will provide you lunch and a scenic work environment.   Work to be done includes trail trimming, mulching and the repair of a boot box.    Please let us know if you’ll be in attendance.  Trail Maintenance Day will be held rain or shine.

FOX TROT BALL

Saturday, September 25, 6:00 -11:00 pm

Put on your dancing shoes and come to the Foxtrot
Ball at the Ed Walls building on September 25 from 6 till 11. Dance to the classic rock of The Juveniles (formerly Jerry and the Juveniles); graze at sumptuous buffet tables catered by some of the area's finest restaurants, including The Bayard House, Bucks, Bentley's, and the Blue Crab Grill; and enjoy getting together with friends to support Fair Hill Nature Center's environmental education efforts. Cost: $50/ plate or $450 for a table of 10.
Corporate sponsorships with free tickets and special privileges available.

GLOBAL WARMING IN THE CHESAPEAKE

Tuesday, October 12, 7:00 -8:00 pm


An alarming, groound breaking film about the dangers and solutions asociated with global warming in the Chesapeake region. The film, titled "We are All Smith Islanders," documents how global warming is affecting agriculture, wildlife, health, and toourism in our region and how this crisis will deepen without immediate action. The film will be shown at the Fair Hill Nature Center. Please call the Nature Center to reserve one of 25 seats. The film was prdouced by the Chesapeake Climate Action Network.

FAMILY CAMP-OVER

Friday and Saturday, October 15 & 16,  6:00 pm – 12:00 noon
 

Here's a great fall activity! Camp with your children right here at Fair Hill's McCloskey site and feel like you're in "back country". Enjoy a campfire and other activities with our Nature Center staff. Dinner and breakfast included -bring your own tents and sleeping bags – "porta potty" on site. Cost is $35 per member family, $50 for non-member family. Reservations required – call early; space is limited.

LEAF WALK

This is a peak time for color in the Fair Hill woods. Meet at the McCloskey campsite at Fair Hill for a wonderful foliage walk followed by leaf printing on clay. Free, but call to reserve a spot.


WILD ABOUT WEATHER

Professor Del Levia,the University of Delaware, will explain the new weather station located in the meadow below the Nature Center. Current conitions of the "weather in the meadow" is can be viewed here. Del will explain all this "magic" and how you can access truly local weather. Free to members, $3.00 for nonmembers.


TRAIL RIDE

Saturday, October 23, 1:30 (beginners) and 3:00 (some experience).
 

Sadle up at the Fair Hill Stables. at 1:30 for beginners and 3:00 for those with some experience. Ages 8 and up.
$25.00/ members, $28.00/ nonmembers.
Paid registration required by October 11.

WATCH THE MORNING GALLOPS

Meet at the Fair Hill Department of Natural Resources office parking lot on Tawes Drive for a great time at the Fair Hill Training Center training track. Watch the morning gallops with an expert. Free to members, $3.00 nonmembers.

 

S.W.A.T. Road Cleanup

Saturday, November 6, 8:00 to 10:00 a.m.

We need you and you’ll get mucho fresh air and exercise! Put the 18th on your calendar to meet at Wesley’s Restaurant parking lot on Rt. 273. We have “adopted” a stretch of the highway and pick up trash about a mile east and west of Wesley’s. We’re only out there a couple of hours but what a difference it makes. And you’ll meet the nicest people!. All materials provided by the Nature Center. Must be 12 years or older. 
Service Learning credit available.

SEASONAL WREATH WORKSHOP

Saturday, November 6, 10:00 am - 12:00 noon

Create a seasonal wreath with natural and purchased materials.
Ages 8 & up and an adult should accompany children.
Cost is $10/ wreath - members, $13.00/ wreath - nonmembers.
Reservations required.


SANTA HAYRIDE

Saturday, December 11, 1:00 -3:00 pm
 

We can’t think of a better way to celebrate the holidays than an old fashioned hayride in the beautiful Fair Hill countryside. Meet at the Fair Hill Stables at 1:00 for a hayride with Santa to the Nature Center. At the Nature Center we will offer refreshments and a craft or cookie decorating and a visit with Santa. Then everyone will take a hayride back to the stables. Members $3.00, nonmembers $5.00, age 3 & under free. Carriage rides and pony rides will also be available at the stables for an extra fee.
