Racing at Fair Hill

Saturday, June 14, 7:00 A.M.

Meet at the Nature Center before driving to the Fair Hill Training Center track to observe the morning gallops from the clocking tower.
 

S.W.A.T. Road Cleanup

Saturday, July 12. 8:00 a.m.

Do your part to help clean up our roadsides by joining Nature Center staff and board members for its quarterly trash pickup day along our adopted highway, a 2 mile section of Rt. 273. We will meet at Wesley's parking lot at 8 a.m. All materials provided by the Nature Center. Must be 12 years or older.


Busy Beavers

Saturday, July 19, 10:00 a.m.

:Learn about beavers, hike to observe beaver signs, and make your own beaver dam. Bring the kids to this one and plan to get wet and muddy! Registration required.

 

Summer Day Camp

Summer Day Camp 2003 includes some old favorites as well as some new offerings. Nature Wizards at “Frogwarts” Academy will again work their spells with owls and potions featuring the real magic to be found in nature.
Our extended day "Chesapeake Bay Camp" will feature two days of field trips as campers trace the Big Elk Creek from Chester County to the Bay and take a cruise on a skipjack.
" Wilderness Adventure Camp" will add some new activities including outdoor cooking to encourage return campers to join us at the McCloskey site for a Thursday overnight. Back this year is also "Imagination Camp and Craft Camp".
Three and four year olds and an adult friend can share a three-day "Introduction to Fair Hill " with teacher/ naturalist Cathryn Harjung.
This summer five and six year olds can spend a week in “Summer Critters” investigating animal tracks, learning about Native Americans, and printing a T-shirt. Then they can return to enjoy a week of “Little Waterworks” exploring a variety of fun water activities with Karen Aspinwall.Doris Andersen is planning “Nature Takes the Stage” ; where campers aged seven to twelve can design and perform a short play based on a story by popular environmental cartoonist Gary Larson. Another new offering this year is a whole week of insect activities called “Get Buggy” with Erlene Michener for campers, aged eight to ten.
Camps fill up quickly so check out the schedule, grab your water shoes and prepare for a summer of fun and learning at Nature Camp.

Skipjack Martha Lewis

Friday, August 1, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Avast ye lubbers, once again the “Martha Lewis” sets sail for a great evening on the bay. This vintage skipjack is a sailing delight. Imagine it’s 1903 as you board and let the captain take you on the best ride of the summer. You’ll sail from Havre de Grace and return two hours later. THIS TRIP WILL SELL OUT so don’t wait. As a member, you are first to hear about this summer’s trip. It’s only twenty dollars ($20) for members and $25 for nonmembers, so sign up now. Call the Nature Center for details.


Starry Starry Night

Friday, August 22, 8:30 p.m.

Join astronomer Linda Tinsman in
viewing the Heavens at Fair Hill. Bring a blanket and a flashlight.
